Drum Separator
This machine is used in mines, where iron ore is desired to be separated from the soil. This device is based on magnetic force, in this system, The iron ore can be pulled on to a surface which is near the magnetic field created by magnets or coils, and materials with a high percent of iron will be absorbed by magnetic field near the surface.
We built a drum separator which was working by magnets and it is being used in mines. We tried to make a prototype electrical version of the device which used coils to create the needed magnetic field.
The version of our electrical drum separator did not work as well as the magnet one because we had a mistake in calculating the coil’s magnetic field and their accumulation because we did not consider this fact that magnetic field doesn’t follow linear combination’s rules. But this was a great experience for me to get familiar with electromagnetic fields and its interesting rules.
